We’re hitting a big milestone this year.
It’s hard to believe 15 years have passed since Goldstein Law Group opened its doors in August 2001. From four attorneys and two clients to more than 50 staff and some of the biggest names in the insurance industry, the saying “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” truly resonates with me.
I remember our first office. It wasn’t located in the best neighborhood and it certainly wasn’t glamorous. In fact, we think it may have been haunted. Most people were scared to even visit, but it was all we could afford. Times were tough back then.
Four attorneys set out to conquer the world with big dreams and nearly depleted bank accounts. We wore multiple business hats – managing human resources, finances and marketing, among other roles.
We had to mortgage our homes and take out loans. I’ll never forget what it was like to sit down at the dining room table with my wife and tell her we could lose our house if this venture failed.
We faced many challenges. Asking clients to buy into our business and commit to a firm with no track record, being one of the toughest to overcome.
But then on September 11, 2001, everything changed. It was a day I’ll remember forever.
It’ll always be one of my saddest memories; a day when so many lives were tragically lost in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks. But, it also was the day our first major client came on board. Although we were (and still are) so blessed to have had Allstate as a client, we were waiting for another big insurer to give us their blessing. 9-11 was the day State Farm, a potential client at the time, told us we now officially represented them. This new partnership lead to significant growth for our firm.
We’ve had a handful of loyal clients who have been with us from the get-go. Their loyalty is the reason behind our longevity.
2015 was a great year for GLG. 2016 is certain to be an exciting one as well.
In anticipation of our 15th anniversary, our staff will be participating in several philanthropic initiatives from February through September. We’ll be sharing more details about that in our next blog post. Stay tuned!
