I have to admit that, as a child, I didn’t dream of becoming a lawyer. Like so many boys, I wanted to be a professional baseball player.
So, in 2007, I couldn’t turn down an opportunity to realize my dream by joining the inaugural Israel Baseball League. Yes, Israel.
While my classmates clerked for judges and scrambled for law firm internships, I lived my fantasy by hitting and fielding as an outfielder and catcher for the Modi’in Miracle, a team coached by Miracle Mets player Art Shamsky. Visiting the country for the first time, I played a total of 40 games and helped introduce baseball to the Israeli population. Although the league didn’t last past its first season, the interesting story behind its formation is documented in the movie, Holy Land Hardball, which screened recently at the Treasure Coast Film Festival. As a native of Vero Beach, I was the featured speaker and enjoyed reminiscing about my two months of “fame” on the field.
Now, I’m fulfilling my dream as an attorney for Goldstein Law Group, where I’m able to use skills in the courtroom that I sharpened while in the dugout. As a member of GLG’s “team,” I consider my recent courtroom victory on behalf of State Farm an equally fulfilling “home run.”
