We hope you will join Goldstein Law Group in supporting the fight against breast cancer during this Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout October, we are asking family, friends, and partners to donate money toward the purchase of specialty bras for women battling breast cancer, or to donate new scarves for these strong women to wear during their fight.
Let’s do this – together – to help brighten the lives of women fighting and surviving breast cancer! For our part, Goldstein Law Group will donate a specialty bra for every 100 scarves collected.
We’re particularly invested in raising breast cancer awareness because two members of our GLG family, Legal Assistant, Paola Kassis, and Billing Coordinator, Linda Britt, have had to deal with the disease. Thankfully, both are in remission. They’re survivors. But the fight wasn’t easy and they’ll constantly be watchful to ensure their cancer doesn’t return.
Paola and Linda are an inspiration to our team and have agreed to share their stories to help inspire others, and to show that those diagnosed with breast cancer can, and do, survive breast cancer.
Diagnosed with dense breast tissue as a teen, Paola Kassis began experiencing unusual symptoms in 2012. She knew something was wrong so Paola sought the opinion of an oncologist, who discovered she had breast cancer. While diagnosed early, Paola’s road to recovery was not easy.
Following a lumpectomy, an E-coli infection required additional, painful treatments. Paola lost a lot of breast tissue to the infection, requiring a three-month recovery that delayed her radiation treatments. Eventually, Paola completed her 12-week radiation regimen and was able to walk out of the center with a diploma congratulating her for “fighting and kicking cancer’s butt.”
“It was the happiest day of my life,” Paola remembers, adding: “Never lose hope. Life is beautiful. Enjoy it and cherish it while you can.J”
Linda Britt had turned 50 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She says worrying about finances and health can quickly wear someone down. Luckily, she received strong support from her husband, children, family and a good friend – an oncology nurse – who accompanied her to many of her treatments.
Her own body was the culprit producing the cancer cells, so Linda’s chemotherapy treatments had to be stronger and more aggressive than most. She lost her hair and suffered nerve damage that caused weakness, numbness, and pain. There were times her hands cramped up and froze, just like a charley horse that would last for about two minutes. She still struggles standing for more than 20 minutes or walking long distances.
Linda is three-and-a-half years into a five-year medication plan. The medications are helping fight the cancer, but they are unfortunately doing a number on her joints – particularly her knees. She stays hydrated so the medications can work; watches her diet to avoid ingredients that cause stomach distress; and takes plenty of vitamins to help her stamina.
“I just live life as it comes,” Linda says.
These two courageous women fought breast cancer…and won! Both realize it likely is a battle that will never let them completely walk away. We have confidence in them because, like our firm, Linda and Paola have a lot of fight in them.
They – and we – ask you to help the millions of others like them who are battling breast cancer by joining our campaign. Bring your donations, either monetary or new scarves, to Mary Maino here in our office (100 NE 3rd Ave., Ste. 700 in Fort Lauderdale). You can give her a call at 954.767.8393, x412 to make arrangements.
Be as generous as you can and we appreciate your help in the fight to find a cure!
